A few years ago, the idea of one person building a million-pound business would have sounded unlikely. Most successful companies needed employees, offices, managers, accountants, marketing teams, customer service departments and significant investment. If you wanted to grow, you usually had to hire more people.

Today, things look very different.

Advances in technology, cloud software and artificial intelligence (AI) mean that a single entrepreneur can now perform tasks that once required an entire team. From designing websites and creating marketing campaigns to managing customer enquiries and analysing business data, many activities can now be automated or outsourced at a fraction of their former cost.

As a result, a growing number of individuals are building highly profitable businesses with little or no staff. While not everyone will become a millionaire, the barriers to starting and scaling a business have never been lower.

The traditional view of a successful business often involves a large office full of employees. However, many modern businesses operate very differently. While the idea of running a million-pound business alone sounds appealing, there are significant challenges.
